I went to Thassos on holiday this year. On the return journey to Manchester we had to land at Skiathos to drop some people off and pick others up. We then left skiathos with a full boeing 757 of passengers and fuel!! My previous time to Skiathos we had to refuel at Thessolniki but not this time. It made the take off interesting....Are we going to get off the ground? That was my thought!

Under the Regulations, no one is allowed in the cockpit other then qualified personnel only. It was probably another pilot sitting in the jumpseat for observation. Yes this is a very scary airport indeed. Pilots dont like it as they have to work for a change instead of kickin back with the A/P pushed. You earn you daily pay on those two sectors. Cheers mate :-)

A/P will not land a plane at any airport regardless of size. "Kicking back with the A/P pushed" is a bit of simplistic description of what pilots do at any phase of flight.

I dont recall ever saying we use it for every landing.. With some airlines, its a requirement under certain circumstances and some airlines are not equip with auto land.. Talk to me when you become a heavy on approach. Otherwise please dont reply.

He did't have to flare much. His approach attitude was already slightly nose up. Also, you dont want to overflare and begin to float on such a short runway.

OMG I used to work on that aircraft, when it was based out of Bristol. Used to love doing BRS-JSI-VOL-BRS, but I was not on that flight when the video was done :( I picked TF-ELV up on the 24th and went to Dalaman. A quirky little aircraft indeed our "Victor" ;)

flare is when about 70 metre's or foot how ever they do it from the floor you and undo the speed brake (take it away) allowing the plane to have more air passing over the wings making it pick up speed to come in for a smooth landing but if you don't flare proply and lose to much speed your going to come in with quite a bang.
