I think that nmf1992 means that the aircraft has to be under a certain weight in order to get off the runway in the distance available, in this case very little. Therefore in the summer when the passenger loads are highest, there is less weight left to play with, and so either the aircraft leaves with less fuel than necessary for the non stop trip back or some passengers are left behind.

As the majority of flights are summer charters, leaving passengers behind isn't an option, and so the flight leaves with less fuel than necessary, stopping off enroute. The 757 and 737-800 are capable off getting to take off speed at the weight necessary with the fuel needed for the UK in the distance available.

You were the pilot? Awesome. I love landing at Skiathos. Do they still take off with limited fuel and land 20 minutes or so later to fuel up fully? I did that in 2003 with MyTravel I believe or Air 2000, been with both.
